Parents and teachers play crucial roles in a child’s education, so we encourage adults to watch and sing along with the children. This not only strengthens the bond between parents and children but also creates a supportive learning environment. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!
Learning to count to 15 teaches children these skills:
- Number order and sequencing: There is a starting point, and something comes next.
- Quantity: Identify how many items are in a group.
- Digits: Introduces the tens place value.
Practice counting to 15 with these hands-on activities:
- Sing along with The Good and Beautiful “Count to 15” video.
- Print the FREE Sheep Counting Mat and Count to 15 Chart. Then practice counting the sheep and fruit.
- Put 15 small items (e.g., blocks, toys, cotton balls) in a paper lunch bag. Have the child reach in, pull out a set of items, and count them. Return them to the bag and repeat the activity.
- Draw items on a paper or whiteboard and have the child count them.
- Count stickers, letters in the child’s name, pieces of snack in the child’s bowl, how many steps your staircase has, how many steps from one room to another, and so on.
- Do a dot-to-dot picture.
