Level 8 Book Studies: Quick Start

Welcome to The Good and the Beautiful Level 8 Book Studies.

Before You Begin

Language Arts Level 8 Book Studies are designed to be open-and-go! This means that there is no need to read or prepare anything daily.

It is, however, extremely useful to spend a few minutes getting an overview of the course.

Here are a few highlights to help you have a successful start.

Purchase Course Set

Required Items Needed for This Course

Items needed to complete a book study include: study booklet, the novel, The Good and the Beautiful Grammar & Writing Guide
(a non-consumable guide also used for the high school courses), a blank
(unlined) notebook, and art supplies specific to each book study.

Note: While we recommend you purchase the novel from The Good and the Beautiful Library, the study references chapters, not pages, so study booklets work with other publications of the novels.

If you did not receive all the items listed on your packing slip contact our Customer Support Team at support@goodandbeautiful.com and we will be happy to help you.

Why Use Book Studies?

The Good and the Beautiful curriculum
does not have a formal Level 8 language arts course, and jumps from
Level 7 straight to the high school courses.

Level 8 Book Studies are designed for students who have completed The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts Level 7 course but do not yet want to start high school courses.

Five reasons you may find Level 8 Book Studies helpful:

  1. to close out a school year and wait to begin high school course until the following school year
  2. for review of principles and concepts before moving on to high school courses
  3. for additional reading with age-appropriate themes
  4. as an extra summer study
  5. as a book club study

How Each Book Study Works

Daily Lessons

A student simply reads and completes the lesson as instructed in the
booklet. A parent or teacher checks the student’s work daily or weekly
using the answer key found on the FAQs page.

Book studies do not go in any order. Students are encouraged to
choose a study they would like to complete, but are also encouraged to
choose a variety of genres, including biographies.

There is not a set number of book studies that should be completed.
These studies are a way to keep students reading good literature,
learning new vocabulary, writing, and reviewing principles learned in
previous levels until they are ready to move to the high school courses.
New book studies will be released periodically.
